The original Murderapolis shirt appeared in 1995. Minneapolis Police K-9 Sgt. Doug Madsen and Mark Koscielski, frustrated at the skyrocketing homicide rate in Minneapolis, created the Grim Reaper design. They hoped that the T-shirt with its Murderapolis logo would serve as a reminder of the terrible loss of life that was occurring and would spur the City into action combating the crime spree. Perhaps as a result of these efforts, the Minnesota Governor assigned the State Police to help the Minneapolis Police Department in its crime fighting.
Now in 2007, the citizens of Minneapolis once again face the possibility of another violent and deadly year. Our new T-shirt reflects the prevalence of drive-by shootings, assaults, and gang activity that have again brought death to the streets of Murderapolis. We hope our efforts will influence city officials into aggressive action to help the embattled citizens of Minneapolis and the beleaguered officers of the Police Department. We cannot stand by and watch Minneapolis experience another year of unnecessary death and sadness.
